Ranexa is indicated for the treatment of chronic angina. Ranexa may be used with beta-blockers, nitrates, calcium channel blockers, anti-platelet therapy, lipid-lowering therapy, ACE inhibitors, and angiotensin receptor blockers.

The anti-ischemic and antianginal effects of Ranexa do not depend upon reductions in heart rate or blood pressure.1 In fact, in controlled clinical studies, patients with chronic angina treated with Ranexa had minimal changes in mean heart rate (< 2 bpm) and systolic blood pressure (< 3 mm Hg).1 The mechanism of action of ranolazine's antianginal effects has not been determined.

A Continuing Clinical Challenge

Americans experience nearly 20 million angina episodes each week.8,11
