Chronic angina is a symptom of a heart problem, usually coronary heart disease (CHD).3 Chronic angina is widespread in the United States, with nearly 17 million Americans having CHD and nearly 10 million Americans experiencing angina attacks.4
In CHD, the arteries of your heart become stiff and narrow, making it difficult for
oxygen-rich blood to reach your heart muscle.1,3 When your heart doesn't get as
much oxygen as it needs, it cannot work properly.2
This is what causes the pain and discomfort of angina.3 Angina is your heart's way of telling you
that it needs more oxygen.
